**On Line Course – 3 Hours duration**

Aim and Target Group:

This VIRTUAL 3 hour on line session  gives participants working in a Health and Social Care setting an understanding or ‘refresher’ of how the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applies to their day-to-day work settings.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this session participants should:

• Understand the introduction of Mental Capacity Act and the statutory principles
• Explore what the Act means by “capacity”, the assessment process
• Clearly understanding the link between Mental Capacity Act 2005 links to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Human Rights
• Understand the importance of record keeping to support all best interest decisions
• Understand what it means in practice for an individual to be deprived of their liberty.
• Discuss the “Cheshire West” Supreme Court decisions that have changed our understanding of what constitutes a “deprivation of liberty”
• Understand the difference between a deprivation of liberty in various different settings
• Know how a Deprivation of Liberty is authorised
• From DoLS to Liberty Protection Safeguards – lets get ready.

There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions during the session.
